There’s a new home trend sweeping the globe that is helping individuals, couples and families live more sustainable livelihoods than ever before. Thanks to advancements in modern technology, tiny home living is now a viable option for many people who are on a tight budget or for those who believe that less is best. If you are considering making the transition to a tiny house, here are a few tips that can help make the process a whole lot easier on you and your family members.

Establish Goals

The first thing you should do after deciding that you will begin transitioning to tiny home living is establish your goals. If you are moving into a tiny home for budgeting reasons, it’s recommended you make a list of all of your monthly expenses and how much you expect to save. By having clear intentions before moving, you can then develop a plan of action and execute it accordingly.

De-Clutter

The hardest challenge that many families encounter when transitioning to tiny home living is the process of eliminating most of their material possessions. You’ll want to go through all of your other personal things and decide what you can’t possibly do without and then sell everything else. Keep in mind that most tiny homes are equipped with storage areas, hidden cabinets and nooks which can help you organize the things you do decide to bring with you.

Prioritize

You should also be prioritizing while you sift through your belongings in order to decide what goes and what doesn’t. Sometimes the things that mean most to us are necessary for everyday living. Start by getting rid of any clothing item you haven’t worn in the past year and then moving on to the rest of your personal belongings. If you have items that are sentimental but not necessarily practical for tiny home living, you may want to think about renting a storage facility or asking a family member if he or she wouldn’t mind taking care of them for you.

Downsize

Another thing to remember when moving into a tiny house is that you can still have the same modern luxuries just smaller in size. For instance, you can easily downsize large appliances such as stoves, dishwashers, coffee makers, etc. in order to save a little more space in your new tiny home. You might also want to think about swapping your large furniture items out for smaller versions.

Consider Location

The location of your new tiny home could make all the difference when it comes to staying within your budget each month. For example, if your tiny home is located in a sunny region, your heating bill will likely be much less than if you were living in a tiny home located in a shaded area. This is why it’s important to evaluate the area which you wish to live in and choose a tiny home based on what you need and/or want.

Making the transition to tiny home living doesn’t have to be a difficult process at all. If you and your family will soon be moving into a tiny home, these simple tips will sure help make your move easy and stress-free.
